Trees and Shrubery - Atmoman - 02-26-2019 Marvin, Here are a few trees and shrubbery that I have created for testing. Let me know if these are the correct height. I matched them to the sizes of the ones you included with the download link, so they should be. It took me longer to find out how to incorporate all these into one package. Hopefully I did it correctly. If these are ok, I can easily create many more for the different planet types/elevations that you mentioned in comments section shown on the main page under the "We want... a Shrubbery" section. I gave these trees/shrub some rather strange names. They could be renamed to something different. Here is a link where you can download the unitypackage file. I have also included some screen captures and have provided the links below: The Tall Trees, Medium Tree, and Shrub can be found at the following link: http://www.jfdhobbies.com/StarflightRemake/AlienPlantsGameObjects.unitypackage The Screen Captures for the above trees/shrub can be found at the links below: http://www.jfdhobbies.com/StarflightRemake/Medium-Alien-Peoney-Elm.png http://www.jfdhobbies.com/StarflightRemake/Shrub-Alien-Laurel.png http://www.jfdhobbies.com/StarflightRemake/Tall-Alien-Flowering-Poplar.png http://www.jfdhobbies.com/StarflightRemake/Tall-Alien-Zig-Willow.png Joseph RE: Trees and Shrubery - Marvin Herbold - 02-27-2019 This is great - they look awesome from the screen captures you posted. However, I cannot import the unity package file - I get an error message "Failed to import package with error: Couldn't decompress package". I am guessing that means the file is corrupt or was only partially uploaded. RE: Trees and Shrubery - Marvin Herbold - 02-27-2019 Also - I can't tell if the trees were exported correctly or not because I can't open the file, but normally all you would need to do is to open up your scene with the trees in them and then go to Assets > Export Package... and then a dialog box will come up asking what things in the current scene you want to export (or just click on "All"). Just put a check mark next to each tree and also make sure you have "Include dependencies" checked on as well. Then you would click on the "Export..." button and that's basically it. RE: Trees and Shrubery - Atmoman - 02-27-2019 I could not import this file either. Something must have been corrupted in its creation when we had some strong winds in my location. The lights here blinked once, but we never lost power in my area. Other sections of Connecticut had power outages during the high wind event, with trees falling on some homes, garages and vehicles. Anyway, I just re-exported the trees following the directions you gave, then did a test import into a new Scene, and everything imported without any issues. My original export was similar with the directory that contained all trees and their respective textures/materials folders. It should have worked, but again perhaps that power glitch did something to the file and corrupted it. This this link again.. http://www.jfdhobbies.com/StarflightRemake/AlienPlantsGameObjects.unitypackage Hope this works. Joseph RE: Trees and Shrubery - Marvin Herbold - 03-02-2019 Hello Joseph! I was able to bring the four Unity trees you created into Unity. It works fine. The sizes of the models are good. I did need to clean up some of the assets - not a big deal. Basically, I went to all the leaf texture maps and turned on "Alpha Is Transparency" and for all the leaf materials I switched the shaders to "Nature/Tree Creator Leaves Fast". In general, they look good. The only concern I have would be that some of the texture maps seem to be a little bit low in resolution, which means I have to be careful not to let the camera get too close to those trees. I would aim for 512x512 or higher for the leaf texture maps. 1024x1024 would be ideal. But these are great and I am adding them to the actual game. RE: Trees and Shrubery - Marvin Herbold - 03-02-2019 A tree of yours in the actual game... I can do 1024x1024 texture maps. Will also check on "Alpha Is Transparency". I may have used the legacy transparency. I used GitHub and updated my local repository with the latest version and compiled the game. It ran smoothly, and I saw the trees on the 2nd planet of the system 123, 101. The trees looked great. Will get busy creating more shrubbery / trees and fix the texture maps as mentioned above. I will place a link to them in this topic. Marvin, Here is an update: I have finished a set for water worlds of 3 large trees, 2 medium trees and 2 shrubs. The textures are HiRes and the size is 1024x1024. These are for water worlds (earth-like planets). I'm uploading the unity package now... It will probably take about 10 minutes or so to upload. I tested the import and it worked. Sorry about the input textures that were packaged with the trees. They weren't supposed to be. Its ok though, just keep them since they were free downloads anyway. Here's the link: http://www.jfdhobbies.com/HiRez-Trees-Tall-Medium-and-2-Shrubs.unitypackage I can also re-do the original trees/shrubs I sent if you like, and include them with the next set. All I have to do is replace the low/medium resolutions with the high resolution textures I now have. When they are finished, I will start work on trees for the Molten Worlds. Joseph RE: Trees and Shrubery - Marvin Herbold - 03-09-2019 That's great! I will be looking at the new trees you made tomorrow morning. |
