Marvin,

Here are a few trees and shrubbery that I have created for testing. Let me know if these are the correct height. I matched them to the sizes of the ones you included with the download link, so they should be. It took me longer to find out how to incorporate all these into one package. Hopefully I did it correctly.

If these are ok, I can easily create many more for the different planet types/elevations that you mentioned in comments section shown on the main page under the "We want... a Shrubbery" section.

I gave these trees/shrub some rather strange names. They could be renamed to something different.

Here is a link where you can download the unitypackage file. I have also included some screen captures and have provided the links below:

The Tall Trees, Medium Tree, and Shrub can be found at the following link:

Needed: Videos of Alien Comms

Now the generic alien comm system is up and running, I need to add code to handle the specialized communication paths of each alien race. What I need from you guys are videos! Basically, I need videos of you interacting with different aliens in different situations.

Take a look at the Google sheets document here. In that spreadsheet, take a quick look at the sheet (bottom row of tabs) that says "m_commList".

That tab lists all of the possible things that the different aliens will say in the game. If you had to boil this entire post down to one question it would be "What will trigger the alien to say this line?"

Going back to the spreadsheet, all of the rows where "m_subject" is "16" are specialized communications.

The alien races that have specialized communication paths are:

Elowan - 1
Mechan - 3
Thrynn - 7
Velox - 8

The numbers next to each alien race are the corresponding value that you will find under the "m_race" column. The ones that have been crossed out have been completed, so I don't need videos for those.

Some of the races have questions that they ask you. In the spreadsheet, the questions they give you are the rows where the value under the "m_subject" column is "14". I need to know under what conditions do they ask you these questions, and what happens when you answer "Yes" and "No" to them.

The alien races that have questions are:

Elowan - 1
Mechan - 3
Spemin - 6
Thrynn - 7
Velox - 8

Some alien races will give you responses to your questions about different things like the Old Empire, the Ancients, themselves, others, and also general information. What I need to know is under what condition will the aliens give you answers, and under what conditions will they not. I do not need the actual questions and responses as that is already coded up in the remake. I just need to know when you are allowed to ask them questions. For example, with the Mechans, they will not give you answers to your questions until you unlock them by answering a number of their questions correctly first.

The alien races that give responses to questions are:

Elowan - 1
Mechan - 3
Spemin - 6
Thrynn - 7
Velox - 8

Some alien races make statements - those are the rows where "m_subject" is "13". I need to know which statements are uttered under which conditions. For the "m_stance" column, the numbers mean "1" for "Neutral", "2" for "Friendly", "3" for "Hostile", and "4" for "Obsequious". This "m_stance" is how the aliens choose to treat you. I've put in initial values for "m_stance", but many are likely wrong.

The alien races that make statements are:

Elowan - 1
Mechan - 3
Spemin - 6
Thrynn - 7
Velox - 8

Then there are other rows where "m_subject" is "5" which I believe are used as a fallback, and where "m_subject" is "1" and "2" which are alien hails and responses to your hails. The races with these rows are:

Elowan - 1
Gazurtoid - 2
Mechan - 3
Mysterion - 4
Nomad Probe - 5
Spemin - 6
Thrynn - 7
Velox - 8
Velox Probe - 10
Minstrels - 11
Noah Derelict - 19

And finally, many of the rows seem related to either homeworlds or surrendering. I do not know exactly what to do with those yet, and how the rest of the alien comms factor in. Basically, I need videos of alien interactions at their homeworlds, and of combat that leads to them surrendering.

Races that have alien comms mentioning homeworlds:

Spemin - 6
Thrynn - 7
Velox - 8

Races that have alien comms mentioning surrendering:

Spemin - 6
Thrynn - 7
Velox - 8

For instructions on taking videos, look at this message here.

HOWTO: Running the EGA Version and Taking Videos and Screenshots

Often, I will ask people to run the EGA version of the game, do certain things in the game, and possibly also take screenshots or a video while they are doing it. This topic shows you how.

The first step is to acquire the EGA version of the game. The easiest way to do this is to buy the game from GOG.com here – you can usually get it for only $1.49 USD when it is on sale.

After you install the game via GOG, most likely you will want to replace the “starb.com” file with a version that gives you a million M.U.’s. This is so you can immediately upgrade your ship and get an appropriately trained crew right at the start. This file can be found here. This download only contains a replacement for the “starb.com” file, and will only work with the EGA version – please do not ask me for the entire game.

After you get past the opening Starflight credits and the Interstel warning screen, press Win+G – that is, press and hold down the windows key on your keyboard, and then press the G key. That will bring up the game bar that is built into Windows 10. Using the game bar, you can take screenshots or record a video.

Any questions?
