I mean repeating over time. If every planet has one of three crater maps in the same orientation, that might be enough repetition for players to notice signature craters always showing up in the same place. With arbitrary orientation, not so much.

I’m not sure what you mean by repeating patterns. The maps aren’t tiled, every point on the globe corresponds to a unique point on the map. Can you clarify?
